Trump, Xi vow to tackle global issues

World peace, security, and prosperity are common globals of Sino-U.S. cooperation say, Presidents

The United States on Thursday highlighted its special ties with China in managing global problems, including nuclear tensions in North Korea, instability in Afghanistan and tacking the scourage of international terrorism.

Visiting U.S. President Donald Trump, signaled at a joint press conference that Washington and Beijing will be the main pillars of the more inclusive international system.

"The United States working with China and other regional partners have an incredible opportunity to advance the cause of peace, security, and prosperity all across the world. It is a very special time and we do indeed have that very special opportunity" said Mr. Trump.

"A great responsibility has been imposed on our shoulders Mr. President; truly a great responsibility,"

he observed, referring to his host Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Emerging order

Some Chinese scholars were quick to the point out that with Mr. Trump's visit, the U.S. and China were becoming the main pillars of an emerging new global order.

"Trump has recognized that China is its main partner to meet short and long-term global challenges, ranging from trade to nuclear issues," said Wang Yiwei, the professor at the School of International Studies at Renmin University.
